What will it cost?

No two websites are the same, and so there is no simple answer to that question. Costs will vary depending on the complexity and size of your website. A critical factor is how much of the work you can carry out in-house.

The short answer

Setup costs £2,000 to £20,000
Running costs £50 to £500 per month

Setup costs depend on the complexity of your website, especially additional functionality beyond simple content publishing. If you have design and technical skills in your organisation, setup might not cost you anything.

Running costs include hosting and support, and vary depending on the size of the website and of the team updating it. More details below.

The long answer

A content management implementation usually consists of several phases. If you are using an agile methodology, these phases are likely to overlap but they are probably still there. You may have the skills in-house to carry out some of these steps yourself, or already have a web agency in place to address them.

1. Planning

This phase involves researching and designing an information architecture for the website. You may already have carried out a lot of this work yourself.

2. Design

In this phase, the visual design for the site is prepared. This could be done by your own designers, or by an external design agency. We partner with several London-based web agencies who we would be happy to recommend.

3. Build and testing

This is the phase where XHTML templates are coded and imported to PostCMS. It may involve configuring workflow rules, user roles and groups, and even coding new user interface screens, web services and so forth. It is unlikely that you will be able to carry out this phase without reasonably good web development skills.

If you have your own technical team, you may be able to carry out this phase yourself. Visit labs.postcms.com for details.

4. Running costs

Here's a table explaining our base licence fees, including standard email support:

DemoMicrositeStandard
Free£50/month£200/month
Max users51030
Max pages101005000
Max storage5MB200MB5GB

If your site development is being managed by a web agency, they may charge higher fees to reflect the level of support they are offering you.

You will also have to pay for hosting. If you've already got an existing hosting provider, that's fine: all you'll need to do is enter the FTP details into your PostCMS account and we'll publish your website to your existing web space.

Otherwise, any reliable hosting provider should do. If you're unsure, we'd be happy to recommend an ISP that is appropriate for the size and expected traffic of your website.
